RIAA Sorter
The Recording Industry Association of America likes to sue college kids and old ladies and little kids who share music files over P2P networks. RIAA Sorter is a simple program written in Python which will sort a directory of music into RIAA and Non-RIAA folders. Then, you can feel safe about sharing your Non-RIAA music over P2P networks like SoulSeek and Gnutella without having to worry about getting sued.

It works by systematically checking RiaaRadar.com’s Keyword Lookup. This is in turn dependent on Amazon.com, so it can be quite slow at times.
Note that files MUST be in the /artist/album/ format. I chose this because that is how iTunes automatically catalogs music. If you’d like to use this program but don’t have files in that format, leave me a comment or send me an email and I’ll whip up a version which uses ID3 tags instead. Or just try letting iTunes sort your music for you. If there are any other bugs, please let me know and I will fix them. Or, fix them yourself and I’ll be more than happy to incorporate them into the program.
A zip containing the program as a Windows executable (compiled with py2exe) is available for download here.
A zip containing the Python 2.5 source (released under the GNU-GPL) is available for download here.
Thanks to John Schanck for doing the original Regex!
